ABout the ARTIST

Mary Cantline is an oil painter devoted to traditional materials and process, working with hand-stretched linens, home-thickened oils, and layered varnishes suited to the northern climate. Using bristle brushes and rich pigments, she explores the interplay of light and shadow to suggest both the visible world and its underlying mystery. Primarily a landscape painter, she also creates still lifes and occasional figurative works, drawn to the symmetry of seashells, the quiet glow of candlelight, and the shifting character of the North Country’s five seasons — including mud season. Through changing skies, melting snow, and fleeting summer blooms, her work reflects on beauty, transience, and the subtle incompleteness of life.
