Renovations are finally complete at the Downtown Artist Center (DAC), and we are excited to show off our bigger space and artist-centered layout to all of our North Country supporters. The re-opening celebration is scheduled for March 18, 5-8PM, with the introduction of dozens of works by two talented multi-media artists, Michael Hart and Noreen Sadue.
Malone resident Michael Hart works in the disciplines of photography, stained glass, music, painting, and sculpture. The DAC will display 21 pieces from his “Backseat Dreamer” collection of images photographed during a drive from the Boston area. Michael notes, “Our band, Figure From Ground, was tightly packed in a van with all of our gear. Our collective breathing fogged the glass into a dreamlike filter, softening the edges and intensifying my imagination. My backseat window seemed like a movie screen, feeding me a flood of imagery as we sliced through the November landscape.”
Noreen Sadue has lived and worked in Plattsburgh for over 30 years and will be displaying “Altered Realities,” a collection of a dozen images representing an artistic process which, Noreen explains, “has evolved over time.” She has selected photographs of objects, textures, light and shadows that have been arranged and layered into new compositions. “By combining separate realities,” Noreen says, “I have created altered realities for the viewer to experience.”
While this is the first time Michael and Noreen are being featured at the DAC, both are well-known in the region. Over the past 12 years, Michael has operated Pouring Light Studios, an art gallery housing exhibits, studio space and performance space. Mostly self-taught, all of Michael’s work has an abstract thread running through it which represents his ever-evolving life experience. Michael has exhibited and received awards for his work in numerous galleries and festivals since the early 1970’s.
Noreen’s work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast in multiple solo and group shows. Throughout her 30-year career as an educator, she taught many art disciplines at the high school level and was an adjunct professor of Photography at Plattsburgh State University. She received her B.F.A. from New York Institute of Technology, Long Island and her M.A. in Painting and Printmaking from Godard College, Vermont.
“Backseat Dreamer” and “Altered Realities” can be viewed online beginning March 10th and in the DAC from March 18-May 1. The Gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11-5pm and Sunday from 12-3pm or by appointment.
